Winter is back in Bavaria.

Cold polar air determines the weather in the Free State.

The prospects from Sunday in the ticker.

  • Winter came back to Bavaria for the weekend.

  • Cold polar air will also determine the Bavarian weather in the coming week (see update from March 6th).

  • On Sunday the sun shines in large parts of Bavaria (see update from March 7th).

  • This news ticker is updated regularly.

Update from March 7th, 10:36 am

: The conditions for a Sunday walk could hardly be better.

In large parts of Bavaria, the sun shines on Sunday, there are only a few showers.

In the morning, the German Weather Service (DWD) expects flakes or drops in southern Swabia and on the edge of the Alps.

Light to moderate frost is also possible.

When the wind is weak, the meteorologists predict maximum temperatures between four degrees in the Upper Franconian mountains and ten degrees on the eastern edge of the Alps.

The DWD expects individual showers in the afternoon and evening at the Alps.

In the night from Monday to Monday morning, there is a risk of slipperiness in the Alps and in the southern foreland due to some snow or freezing moisture.

Winter weather stays in Bavaria: polar air brings shiver values to the Free State

Update from March 6, 10:53 a.m.:

The weather forecast for Bavaria has been confirmed.

Winter has returned.

Frosty minus degrees currently prevail in the Alpine region and there is a closed blanket of snow at an altitude of up to 800 meters.

Similar scenes take place in the Bavarian Forest.

And it will stay that way for the time being.

"A high pressure zone extends from the British Isles to the Balkans and, together with the polar air that has flowed in, determines the weather in Bavaria," writes the German Meteorological Service.

The high has come to rest and lies comfortably and frosty cold over the Free State.

After all: The high pressure weather lets the sun shine again.

But even that can hardly warm the polar air.

For the night on Sunday the following applies: Moderate frost between -5 and -9, especially in eastern Bavaria and in some Alpine valleys locally severe frost down to -12 degrees.

None of this has much to do with spring.

Because even the high-pressure sun weather does not last.

As early as Sunday, clouds are gathering that bring rain and snow, depending on the altitude, between Lower Bavaria and Swabia and on the edge of the Alps.

In the remaining parts of Bavaria, however, sun can be expected.

But from Monday at the latest, thick clouds will also move over the north of Bavaria, bringing rain and snow.

At night it stays frosty, during the day the temperatures climb to tentative, single-digit plus degrees.

Update from March 5, 9.29 a.m.:

Tief Friedrich brings the winter back to Bavaria (see previous update) - at least in some parts of the Free State.

There is an official warning of light snowfall.

This applies from Thursday at 10 p.m. to Saturday at midnight.

“During the warning period above 1000 m light snowfall occurs with amounts between 5 cm and 15 cm.

Quantities of up to 25 cm are achieved in stowed positions.

It is spreading smoothly, "it says on the part of the German Weather Service (DWD).

The south of Bavaria is affected, for example Garmisch-Partenkirchen or the Oberallgäu district.

In the east of Bavaria there is a warning of slipperiness.

This is valid on Friday until 12 noon in the districts of Regen, Schwandorf and Passau, among others.

In some parts it can cut, but the weekend in Bavaria will probably be mostly sunny.

Friday will be rainy in the Free State, as the DWD announced.

In the north, the sun occasionally shows up during the day.

The maximum temperatures are between two and seven degrees.

Also on Saturday it will be sunny with a maximum of two to eight degrees.

Only in the area of the Alps does it remain cloudy.

The night on Sunday will be frosty with temperatures between minus four and minus eleven degrees.

On Sunday the temperatures rise again to four to nine degrees when the sun is shining and the sun is only occasionally hiding behind a few clouds.

Weather change in Bavaria is imminent: "Continuous snowfall" as far as Munich on Friday

Update, March 4, 12:47 p.m.:

The forecasts for the weather in Bavaria are confirmed.

Deep Friedrich will bring winter back tomorrow.

The temperatures drop to around zero degrees.

And it's snowing.

In the alpine country already on Friday morning.

But snow will also fall as far as Munich.

So there are slippery roads and slush in all of Upper Bavaria as well as in the Bavarian Forest and Vorwald.

In the lower areas around Regensburg * and Nuremberg * it just gets dirty and wet and cold.

On Saturday it clears up again, but with a clear frost in the nights.

The long-term prognosis for the coming days hardly promises any improvement.

It gets windy and stays cold.

Update from March 3, 9:34 a.m.:

Temperatures around 20 degrees and that for several days in a row.

Nice thing if the calendar sheet would read April or May.

But actually February / March is not known for throwing two-digit temperature values around.

Every weather layperson should be aware that something is wrong.

And this feeling can also be backed up with data.

The meteorologists' conclusion for winter 2020/21 - December, January and February - is unanimous.

It was the tenth winter in a row that was too warm.

For example, if you pick February, it was 1.3 degrees warmer in 2021 than in the comparable

years

from 1961 to 1990. The entire winter was even 1.4 degrees warmer than in the same period, writes

wetter.net

.

And even if you don't go back that far and look at the years from 1991 to 2020, the picture is no different.

February was 0.3 and the entire winter 0.4 degrees warmer than the long-term average.

Weather in Bavaria: Winter was average in terms of precipitation and hours of sunshine

In addition to the mild temperatures, the sun shone for a longer than average time in many places in February.

In the Allgäu in particular, the yellow ball appeared more frequently than the average, "so that the cloudy January could be largely compensated for," writes

wetter.net

.

The duration of sunshine over the entire winter was therefore average.

Winter 2020/21 was also pretty normal in terms of precipitation *.

While it was a little too dry in the northern half of Germany, it rained and snowed more in the south than the average.

In terms of Germany as a whole, there was a small precipitation deficit, but this is still within limits.

Meteorologists only see black for March.

According to initial assessments, the month is likely to be too dry.

First report from March 2, 2021:

Munich - Winter is coming ... back.

Sounds absurd at first when you look out of the window.

But it seems to be becoming more and more likely, at least if one can believe the relevant weather forecast *.

How much snow * will fall where - and whether in large parts of Bavaria at all, cannot yet be estimated.

But it is also clear that it cools down significantly.

Weather in Bavaria: Last sunny day Wednesday

If you can, you should still enjoy the spring sun to the full on Wednesday (March 3rd).

Tomorrow will be the warmest day of the young spring month of March.

A maximum of 11 to 15 degrees, in the southern foothills of the Alps up to 17 degrees, writes the German Weather Service (DWD) in its current Bavaria forecast.

17 degrees in the shade on March 3rd - that is impressive.

Winter in Bavaria is coming back: As of Thursday, the spring weather will be over

But then that's it for now.

From Thursday it will cool down significantly.

The wind turns from west to north to northeast.

It brings cool air masses to Bavaria.

There will be frost again in many places during the night.

Weather in Bavaria: Snowfall in the lowlands - slippery roads on Friday

Friday then only brings maximum values of up to 1 to 6 degrees in the morning.

And it's snowing - maybe even in Munich *.

At the edge of the Alps and in the Alps all day long.

The DWD even writes of "continuous snowfall".

The snow can stay there.

In the eastern low mountain ranges, the snow line is said to drop to an altitude of 400 to 200 meters.

At the edge of the Alps around 800. And there the temperatures also drop to minus eight degrees.

In the rest of Bavaria, too, temperatures down to minus three degrees can be reached - when it is snowing.

Weather trend for Bavaria: It remains cold and mixed

So it could well be that the landscape in the south of Bavaria but also in the low mountain ranges is getting a white robe again.

It can get slippery in the whole of Bavaria by Saturday night at the latest.

On the night of Sunday, snow temperatures can even drop to minus ten degrees.

During the day they remain in the single digits in most parts of Bavaria.

Only in the extreme southwest could the 10 degree mark be reached again.

And also at the start of the coming week it will remain frosty at night.

The snow, however, should turn into rain again during the day.

Actually a very typical March winter weather in Bavaria.

Because 17 degrees at the beginning of March are actually much too warm for this time of the year.

Speaking of which: did you already know?

The Zugspitze * could explode at some point due to climate change.

It has happened before.
