Following the surprise of the animal traps in Changpu Village, Yuen Long in January, the Hong Kong Wild Boar Concern Group discovered a giant animal trap in a village in Yuen Long last Saturday (6th).
Roni, the director of the Hong Kong Wild Boar Concern Group, said that some citizens reported earlier that the BB of the Tang dog raised by the villagers mistakenly used a trap commonly known as "piranha" and was tragically pinched.
After they entered the village to investigate and search the mountains, they found a 1.5-meter square trapping cage made of iron through welding. There were also five small trapping cages behind, believed to be used for catching wild boars, cats, dogs and other wild animals.
The trap has been removed by the AFCD and AFCD staff, but it is still unknown who installed the trap. Roni appealed to people familiar with the matter to provide information.
Roni revealed that earlier reports were received from the public that someone openly set up animal traps in a village near Yuen Long West Rail Station. The BB dog raised by a villager was also injured by the "piranha". The abduction has been sent to a veterinarian for treatment. It is currently unknown whether it will affect its ability to move in the future.
The Hong Kong Wild Boar Concern Group entered the village last Saturday to investigate and search for the mountains. A cemetery was found near a cemetery that was about 1.5 meters long x 1.5 meters wide x 1.5 meters high. The cage’s entrance was covered with mud and weeds. , Pretend to be a grassland to deceive wild animals, and the cage contains food such as sweet potatoes and pineapples as a lure. Any wild animals including wild boars, cats and dogs entering the cage will immediately be trapped in the trap.
And behind the giant cage are five small iron cages believed to be homemade, all containing organs and food, suspected to be used to catch small animals of porcupines and snakes.
He pointed out that those who set traps are skilled in their techniques and believe that they are experienced.
He also pointed out that since it was dusk when the trap was discovered, in order to avoid another animal being killed, they first removed the bait and some mechanical devices, and notified the Association to follow up.
The Association also went to the site in the dark at 7 pm that day to cut off the iron branches of the cage. The AFCD also dispatched the trap debris to be removed the next morning.
Roni continued to point out that he still does not know the identity of the person who set up the animal trap, and is worried that he will continue to set up traps to hunt wild animals. He hopes that the public will provide information to avoid further animal deaths.
