Member of the Bundestag Georg Nüßlein, who is criticized for dealing with corona protective masks, has resigned from the CSU.
This was announced by General Secretary Markus Blume on Monday after a switch from the CSU Presidium.
Blume called on Nüßlein to resign from his parliamentary mandate and to make amends.
Nüßlein sat for the CSU in the Bundestag for almost 20 years, most recently as deputy parliamentary group leader of the CDU / CSU.
He is said to have received six-figure commissions for brokering business with corona protective masks.
The Munich Public Prosecutor's Office is therefore conducting investigations into suspected corruption.
Nüßlein denies all allegations.
He had previously resigned as a parliamentary deputy, had left the parliamentary group and announced that he would no longer run in the general election.
Previously, party colleague Nikolas Löbel had resigned his Bundestag mandate with immediate effect and left the CDU.
He had brokered purchase contracts for protective masks through his company and collected commissions of around 250,000 euros for them.
Union parliamentary group leader Ralph Brinkhaus (CDU) does not rule out that there are more such cases in their own ranks.
According to SPIEGEL information, several parliamentarians were involved in the billion-dollar mask business.
"We will use the next few days to clarify all doubtful cases accordingly, because we also believe that we are guilty," said Brinkhaus on Sunday evening in the ARD.
