The Union politicians Nikolas Löbel and Georg Nüßlein have enriched themselves by procuring corona masks. Leading Union politicians are calling for their resignation - that alone is not enough, says Greens boss Habeck.

Green leader Robert Habeck sees a fundamental problem in the Union in view of the affair about the profits of members of the Bundestag in the procurement of corona masks.

»Neither party is immune from individual cases of personal missteps.

But in the case of the Union, a lot indicates that it is a structural and systematic problem, "Habeck told the dpa news agency.

Apparently it has been forgotten that MPs and ministers are committed to the well-being of the people, not their own.

"This reveals a crude understanding of power among the CDU and CSU that damages trust in the integrity of democratic institutions," said Habeck.

The entire process would have to be processed systematically.

It was not done with indignant words alone.

Politicians from the CDU and CSU had enriched themselves with the procurement of corona protective masks.

Shortly before the state elections in Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Württemberg, this is putting the Union under great pressure.

Among others, the MPs Georg Nüßlein (CSU) and Nikolas Löbel (CDU) had collected six-figure commissions for the mediation of mask shops.

Several parliamentarians in the billion dollar business

Both have now announced their exit from the Union parliamentary group, but want to keep their mandate, although the party and parliamentary group leaders are demanding their withdrawal.

Group leader Ralph Brinkhaus (CDU) does not rule out that there are more such cases in their own ranks.

According to SPIEGEL information, several parliamentarians were involved in the billion-dollar mask business.

"Now everything has to be on the table - and now means now," demanded Habeck.

»All contracts of the Ministry of Health, all files in connection with the procurement of protective materials must be disclosed.

And it is up to the Union leadership to ensure that their MPs quickly and in detail explain whether and to what extent they may have benefited in connection with the procurement of protective materials. "

Habeck recalled: “A good year ago we as a party called for a pandemic economy.

I'm afraid the Union has turned it into nepotism. "
