MotoGP: Quartararo and Zarco have a smile after the first pre-season testing

2021-03-09T10:58:57.476Z

The two French pilots experienced two reassuring and promising days of testing at Losail for a season that will open on March 28.

So far, so good.

While the 2021 MotoGP season will begin on March 28 in Qatar, on the Losail circuit, the two French representatives in the category - Fabio Quartararo and Johann Zarco - have experienced two rather very encouraging days of testing on this same track on Sunday and Monday.

So much so that Quartararo even gave himself the luxury of setting the best time on the handlebars of his Yamaha, while also being the only one to complete a 1'53 '' loop (1'53''940 to be precise).

A real satisfaction, as much as a relief for him who had lived a much more complicated first day.

"I had great lap times, I had a great pace," he confided on Monday night to the Motorsport.com site.

“The bike is great, for sure, but we'll have to see, because last year we were also quick here with the 2020 bike. We have to assess these two days.

It will be really good to look at the data with the team, and see which direction to take. ”

"I wasn't stressed or under pressure, but a little scared, and ultimately I love it."

Fabio Quartararo

Like any scalded cat fears cold water, Quartararo, wisely, refused to ignite, especially since the competition was very close with Jack Miller's Ducati clocking only 77 thousandths of a second from his best time.

Nevertheless, the Frenchman savored his first two days in the costume of an official Yamaha rider, a new status that he has shown in a beautiful way.

"I feel good.

Before starting the season, I kept this to myself but I said to myself: “Wow, this is a job that involves a lot of responsibility!”

I wasn't stressed or under pressure, but a little scared, and ultimately I love it.

Saying what decisions to make, which direction to take ... I do it with Maverick, of course, but I like to provide my feedback.

I think during these two days I made very good comments about my feelings, the new chassis or the swingarm that we tested. ”

There was also confidence and satisfaction on the side of Johann Zarco who signed the 6th fastest time of the two days (1'54''356) by completing 55 laps on the handlebars of a new Ducati that he was discovering. for the occasion.

“I'm pretty happy to have been able to go fast quite quickly.

The speed is there, ”he analyzed with Motorsport.com.

“Whenever there is a need to go really fast I can be in the game.

I saw that it quickly returned, afterwards you have to find more ease to chain all the laps like that.

I think that it is possible.

It's easier said than done, but clearly I attacked again being almost where I finished last year, and that was my goal. "

All the lights are therefore green for the French drivers less than three weeks before the start of the season.
