A dog abuse case is suspected in Tung Chung.

At about 5 pm today (8th), the police received a report from a female student stating that a man was found outside the market of Yat Tung Estate Shopping Centre and suspected of having abused dogs.

The police said that after the officers arrived for investigation, they found a light brown dog. It had no superficial injuries but had skin problems. It was sent to the SPCA for inspection and treatment.

The police arrested a 66-year-old man on the spot. He was suspected of "cruel treatment of animals" and was sent to the Lantau Police District Criminal Investigation Team for follow-up.

It is reported that the arrested man is the owner of the dog.

According to the source, the female student who reported the case had been on the bicycle track near Fu Yat House, Yat Tung Estate at noon yesterday (7th). The suspect was found hitting a dog on the buttocks with a branch. After the other party hit the dog, she left immediately; until today, She found the suspect again and called the police for help.

It is understood that some neighbours witnessed the same situation today. The suspect left the scene after beating the dog. After the dog was beaten, he lay on the ground. The Association for the Protection of Animals stated that the dog involved was a light brown adult Tang dog, a male, who had taken it back to the Ai Hey Wan Chai Center for inspection.

Ai Xie continued that it received a notice from the public earlier today that a Tang dog in Yat Tung Village, Tung Chung, was suspected of being abused by the dog owner.

Inspectors of AIX attended the scene to understand, brought the dog back to AIX Wan Chai Center for veterinary inspection and wrote a report.

As the case is under investigation, it is inconvenient to disclose more details.
