, the President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, explains the contours of the Conference on the Future of Europe, which will be launched on Wednesday after a long year of negotiations.

- What does the Conference on the Future of Europe consist of?

At the start of our legislature, we undertook to initiate a reflection on the functioning of our democracy, to point out the problems of the functioning of the common European home.
It is about reflecting on our future with citizens, national parliaments, associations, NGOs, academics, in order to set up initiatives to revive democratic mechanisms.
The Union must be closer to the citizens.
Democracy is never acquired definitively.
After Covid-19, we will need a democracy that works even better.
What tangible result can we expect?
A modification of the treaties?
There is no agenda or predefined conclusions.
