Miguel Bernardeau: "That they only want a photo of me and do not even say 'thank you' makes me feel like a fairground monkey"

Surfer, raised in a home that breathes television and with the appearance of a classic gallant, his success rides on the back of the phenomenon 'Elite'. It is also the image of the Boss Bottled fragrance. And it just started

Until just two and a half years ago, he was nothing more than the son of Ana Duato and Miguel Bernardeau, actress and creator of

Cuéntame

, respectively.

Today, for 20 million viewers, it is Guzmán, one of the protagonists of

Elite

.

The Spanish Netflix series already has a fourth season pending its premiere and has turned its young interpreters into world stars.

The profession of his parents has served Miguel to know since he was a child what a shoot is, but not to deal with the sudden fame that the series brought him.

“Each one manages it as best they can.

I needed to lean on my family and friends a lot.

It was decisive to realize that I had to be myself, give myself space to make mistakes and follow my natural path, the one that I would take if nobody knew me.

Maybe I would enjoy it more and it would be better if there weren't people chasing me with a camera every time I go out on the street, but it is a consequence of my work and I love it.

It is a first world problem ”.

In spite of everything, he still finds it “magical” that people stop him on the street to tell him how much his work in

Elite

has touched him

.

“That is something that happens in very few professions.

I appreciate it when it comes to a real conversation, without a mobile phone involved.

It's so much worse when all they want from me is a photo and they don't say 'thank you' or 'hello' or 'goodbye'.

That makes me feel like a fairground monkey ”, explains Bernardeau, who is an ambassador for Hugo Boss and the image of his Boss Bottled fragrance.

The actor assures that his aesthetic, vital and moral interests fit perfectly with the brand with which he has been associated.

"Boss Bottled represents a new masculinity, a type of man that evolves at the rate of the current moment, in which ideals and social and environmental awareness are gaining more and more importance."

The campaign they did with him included a trip to surf in which they gave him the opportunity to explain what his life is like beyond the cameras and what really moves him.

Raised in Madrid but accustomed since childhood to enjoying the sea thanks to the frequent trips he made with his parents to Valencia, where his whole family is from, Miguel believes that it is essential that we find solutions for the ecological crisis that the planet is suffering.

In particular, he is saddened to have witnessed how the oceans have filled with plastic in recent decades.

"I really like scuba diving, freediving, and in a very short time I have gone from enjoying incredible fauna and flora to witnessing a drastic deterioration of that habitat."

The interpreter has proposed to contribute with his image to raise awareness of how urgent it is to stop this disaster.

Hence, he has become involved in

Playa Negra

, a series about a surfing town that he devised before the pandemic and that will soon shoot in the Canary Islands.

Although he grew up in an artistic environment, Miguel admits that his parents did not take too well when he told them that he, too, intended to be an actor.

"At first they did not want me to dedicate myself to this, but I would not want it for my children either," he says.

Above all, Ana and Miguel (father) were concerned that their son would opt for acting just because it was the only thing he had seen them do.

“You have to have the opportunity to choose, but the fact is that I had it and I chose this.

Several schools came looking for me and offered me scholarships.

I chose to study acting in Los Angeles.

There I met incredible actors who do not work because they do not find the support they need in their family, and that is very difficult.

I am lucky that my family understands me, supports me and helps me.

It is something that will always accompany me ”.

After seeing him wear the uniform of Las Encinas, the

Elite

institute

, it is inevitable to imagine him in his school years and very juicy to assume that his was a adolescence as moved as that of the protagonists of the series.

But the reality, in this case, is not more than fiction.

“My school was nothing like Las Encinas.

But I have never met anyone who has gone to an institute like that ”, he answers with amusement.

Is the sexuality of young people today as it appears in the series?

“I think it's portrayed the way a lot of young people can feel it.

It is good to give them the opportunity to discover their real sexuality so that they can be happy.

Sex is a very important part of us ”.
