Large areas have been cultivated with wheat for the current season in Sweida Governorate, within the framework of the directions aimed at increasing its cultivation plan and investing any inch of cultivable land.

The expansion of areas compared to past years came in light of the provision of various production requirements according to the concerned parties in the agricultural issue despite the conditions of siege and unilateral coercive measures imposed by the forces of aggression on the Syrian people.

The Director of As-Suwayda Agriculture, Engineer Ayham Hamed, explained that the directorate, within the directions of the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, increased the crop cultivation plan during the current season by more than 6 thousand hectares, from 34,685 hectares to 41,667 hectares.

Hamed indicated that the cultivation of wheat is nearing completion, as the cultivated areas to date have reached about 40 thousand hectares, with an implementation rate of 97 percent and an increase of more than 8 thousand hectares from last year, indicating that the reality of the crop up to its date is good and access to abundant production depends on rain fall during the coming days. Because most of the areas planted with wheat in the governorate are cultivated in Ula.

According to the director of the branch of the General Organization for Seed Multiplication, Engineer Wael Al-Tawil, the quantities of wheat seeds sold for the current season exceeded 2,260 tons, with an increase of more than 700 tons compared to last season, as a result of the demand for agricultural seeds, indicating that they included the "Sham 3", "Douma 1" and "Research 11" varieties. “At a price of 450 pounds per kilo, it was provided through the Corporation's branch and agricultural banks, either in cash or under loans from the bank.

The director of the Agricultural Cooperative Bank in Sweida, Engineer Nasim Hudayfa, stated that the quantities of nitrogenous fertilizers that were sold for the purposes of wheat cultivation amounted to about 1500 tons, after submitting the necessary documents for cultivation.

Vice President of the Peasants' Union in As-Suwayda, Rakan Al-Sahnaoui, referred to the provision and sale of one million and 179 thousand liters of diesel for the purposes of growing wheat and baal barley, at an implementation rate of about 96 percent of the need, in addition to about 30,155 liters of irrigated wheat, as the distribution of the material is still continuing, at a rate of 2 liters per acre.

The farmer, Fariz Al-Tawil, stated that he planted 60 dunums of wheat for the current season, explaining that the seeds and nitrogen fertilizer were provided to farmers, while superphosphate fertilizer was not provided due to the economic blockade on our country, wishing that in the coming seasons, he would provide it and increase the quantities of diesel allocated for agriculture.
