The Corona pandemic in Latin America and the Caribbean has claimed more than 700,000 lives since the virus spread to the world in December 2019.
According to a statistic published by Agence France-Presse today and based on the reports of the official health authorities in the 34 countries of the region, the number of recorded deaths reached 700022 out of 22140444 injuries, making Latin America and the Caribbean the second most affected region in the world after Europe, in which the deaths reached 876511 deaths. And to go ahead of the United States and Canada, which recorded 547,986 deaths, and Asia 259,925 deaths.
After the curve of the epidemic declined slightly during last fall, the number of injuries and deaths caused by Covid 19 in Latin America increased steadily last December.
Since mid-February, the daily death rate from the virus in this region has decreased again to below the threshold of 3,000 deaths.
Last week, the daily death rate from the virus in this region reached 2,850 deaths, an increase of 6 percent compared to the previous week.
Brazil and Mexico alone accounted for two-thirds of the deaths recorded for the entire region.
It is noteworthy that at the global level, nearly 117 million people have been identified with corona, including about 2.26 million deaths, since the beginning of the epidemic.
