The United States considers that "
the time has come to (establish) an inclusive and representative government
" in Sudan, said Tuesday the American ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, judging that it was also time "

"
Six months have passed since the signing
" of the Juba Peace Agreement "
between the civilian-led transitional government and rebel groups
."
"
And yet, the Sudanese people have not seen the commitment of the signatory parties necessary for progress,
" she laments during a Security Council videoconference on Sudan.
"
It is time for Sudan to take fundamental steps to make it clear that it is committed to the country's long-term stability
," insisted the diplomat and member of the US government in a scathing speech.
According to her, "
Sudan is expected to complete the formation of an inclusive Transitional Legislative Council - comprising at least 40% women.
It should create the necessary security forces in Darfur
”, she also estimated, recalling an attack in January in this region which left“
163 dead and 50,000 displaced
”.
"
The government must do more to ensure that its protection plan will prevent future violence and hold the perpetrators of this attack accountable
," she said.
The Sudanese authorities "
should create the rule of law and other transitional justice mechanisms, including a Special Court for Crimes in Darfur
", argued the ambassador.
“
At this time of transition, the Sudanese government must now take full responsibility for the protection of civilians.
Sudan has a comprehensive plan to protect all civilians in the country.
But a plan is just a piece of paper.
It is only useful or good if it is implemented,
”said Linda Thomas-Greenfield.
Since the dismissal in April 2019 of the former autocrat Omar el-Bechir under popular pressure, the country has experienced a political transition weakened by a deep economic crisis.
Almost a month ago, he adopted a new government responsible for carrying out the political transition.
