Dozens of protesters reached Congress in the Dominican Republic this Monday to demand the legalization of abortion, which the country's Penal Code prohibits in any circumstance.
With slogans like "This is not a holiday;
it is one of struggle and resistance, ”the protesters rejected that the decriminalization of abortion for three reasons be included in a special law, as proposed by Dominican legislators.
The interruption of pregnancy for reasons was introduced in Congress by the then president Danilo Medina.
This as part of the reform project to the Penal Code.
The proposal generated controversy among religious sectors.
And it established the legalization of abortion when it is the product of rape or incest, when the pregnancy endangers the life of the mother or due to malformations incompatible with life.
Currently, congressmen debate the issue in the Justice Commission.
