Young people in Poing want a self-managed meeting place.

Youth care worker Martina Venus gathered ideas for this in the first youth clinic.

Poing - A shelter, maybe a construction trailer, that's what young people in Poing want.

As a meeting point, managed by them themselves.

Martina Venus reports that this wish was expressed several times during the first consultation hour for young people.

The 25-year-old has been Poing's full-time youth carer since October 2020 and has launched the consultation hour.

The first appointment took place by phone because of the corona pandemic, around 20 young people have contacted us.

Venus is very pleased with this response.

“Bring your wishes, implement ideas and help shape things so that your Poing offers even more for you!” It says on www.poing.de in the text accompanying the youth clinic.

It is entitled “MEETING POIN (G)!”.

“Tell me what is missing in Poing or what you want to change.

Together we see what is possible, ”writes Martina Venus on the website.

Poing: Youth department restructured

A meeting point, as central as possible, easily accessible from Alt- and Neu-Poing: For this purpose, together with the young people who called during the first consultation, she gathered ideas and discussed possible locations.

The topic of “self-administered meeting point” is on the program for 2021 anyway, says Venus.

Together with Torsten Gürntke (Head of Pedagogy in the Youth Department), she reported to the local council in November 2020 about considerations in the context of the youth concept.

A possible location for a covered meeting place managed by young people themselves could therefore be the adventure playground on Endbachweg, which is located right next to the skating facility.

This is not very attractive for children, so you could think about a redesign here.

"The location and the terrain of the area offer (...) an ideal prerequisite for creating a central open space for young people," said Venus and Gürntke at the municipal council meeting.

Petition for pump track

Another topic at the first consultation hour for young people was the construction of a pump track system, explains Martina Venus.

As early as May 2020, two young people from Poingen started an online petition with the request that the community implement such a mountain bike route.

In principle, the administration and the local council are in favor of investigating several areas that could be used as a location, according to Venus.

What does a youth carer do in these times when no or hardly any real face-to-face contact with young people is possible?

“Plan, plan, plan,” replies Martina Venus, listing: projects, developing a youth concept and a holiday program.

"We try to have something in hand for the holidays so that we can do something spontaneously when it is allowed again due to corona," she reports.

In contrast to previous years, the future holiday programs will also include more offers for young people.

Youth consultation hour "MEETING POIN (G) T"

The next "MEETING POIN (G) T" dates: March 19 and April 23 (each Friday), from 2 pm to 5 pm.

Telephone number: (08121) 257217. Due to the corona situation, the consultation hours are provisionally by telephone.

Later they are planned as face-to-face events.
