For the second day, the tests of selecting the national teams that will represent Syria in the 2021 World Olympiad competitions in the field of "Physics and Chemistry" continued at the Ebla Hotel and the Umayyad Conference Palace in Damascus.

The tests were conducted over a period of four continuous hours and included issues according to international standards that assess the student's intellectual capabilities and the extent of his study of the proposed solutions, their analysis and interpretation of their logical and methodological interrelations

SANA followed the tests in its second round, as the Director of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad at the Excellence and Creativity Authority, Nebug Yassin, pointed out that the selection tests for each specialty are conducted over two rounds in accordance with international practices, indicating that the scientific committees began correcting the answer sheets after sterilizing them in the Atomic Energy Authority, in compliance with the procedures to address the epidemic Corona, and the outcome of the two rounds will be taken, according to which the final order of marks, the order of the participants, and the selection of the specific number for each major will be calculated.

Accordingly, according to Yassin, six students will be selected to be members of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad team that will represent Syria in the “Mathematics” World Olympiad, five students for the “Physics” Olympiad, and four students for each of the “Chemistry”, “Biology” and “Informatics” Olympiads.

Yassin indicated the cancellation of the practical training axis due to the Corona pandemic and a guarantee of students' health, while training will continue through the electronic platform launched by the authority for this purpose in conjunction with the final qualifiers of the Scientific Olympiad last January.

A number of students mentioned that the exams were characterized by difficulty, accuracy, and the need for deep thinking, expressing their hope for victory, as Amer Al-Daly from Damascus countryside, specializing in physics, pointed out the benefit he obtained from the tests and training he received from former and old students in the Olympiad.

A student, Nart Suleiman, from Homs, majoring in chemistry, also saw that the Olympiad was an important experience through which he learned about a new study method that would help him in his future studies.

From Tartous, student Allen Musa Alloush, specializing in chemistry, indicated that the level of questions in the two rounds is very advanced and requires a great ability to focus, think and logical analysis.

The selection tests will continue tomorrow, in which 155 male and female students who qualified in the final rounds of the Syrian Scientific Olympiad with a specialization in mathematics will participate.

For two days, selection tests for the informatics specialization will be held during the period between 3 and 7 of next April at the Faculty of Informatics Engineering at the University of Damascus.

The World Olympiad will be held in Russia, physics "from a distance" in Lithuania, "chemistry" in Japan, "biology" from "distance" in Portugal and informatics in Singapore.
