After the New York High Line between the Manhattan skyscrapers, Miami is building its own urban green path.

Called Underline, it will be located under a skytrain line from the center to the south of the city.

A cycle path and a pedestrian path will meander under the subway rails for more than 16 kilometers in a green setting imagined by the design firm James Corner Field Operation (JCFO), already responsible for the Manhattan High Line and the beach project. public on the banks of the Hudson in New York.

After two years of work costing $ 16.5 million, the first section, called “Brickell Backyard”, has just opened between Miami River and Coral Way.

A green path about 800 meters long with picnic tables, a basketball court and spaces to host sports and yoga lessons.

The path is punctuated by exterior rooms, such as alcoves where pedestrians and cyclists are invited to stop.

Among them, “The River room” with a view of the Miami River, “The Gym”, a leisure area with sports fields or “The Oolite room” where four butterfly gardens are planted.

The project is supported by The Friends of the Underline, a non-profit association that has managed to secure $ 120 million in grants and investments.

The end of the construction of the third part is scheduled for 2025. It will add 11 kilometers to the promenade and join the Dadeland South underground station.
