How well does the AstraZeneca vaccine protect?
The case of the Mayor of Warngau, who tested positive for Corona a few days after an initial vaccination with the substance, caused irritation.
However, experts do not doubt the effectiveness of the vaccine.

mayor was unlucky.
Klaus Thurnhuber (FWG) was infected with Corona last week - a few days after his first vaccination with the Astrazeneca vaccine.
Experts emphasize that this can happen when the body's immune protection has not yet been sufficiently built up.
Corona vaccination: how well does AstraZeneca protect?
Vaccination expert provides clarity
The report attracted a lot of attention in the district, but also nationwide - understandable at a time when some are urgently waiting for their own vaccination, while others are fundamentally questioning the benefit of a vaccination.
Dr.
Thomas Straßmüller, medical director of the vaccination center for the district of Miesbach, clarified once again on request that the effectiveness of the Astrazeneca vaccine is not in question.
Straßmüller points out that the onset of immune protection can only be expected ten days after the first vaccination.
After three weeks, studies assume a 70 percent protection.
At the same time, the probability of having to be treated in intensive care units with a severe course then decreases to zero.
AstraZeneca: "Complete vaccination protection exists after the second vaccination"
“Complete vaccination protection is provided after the second vaccination, which Astrazeneca should take every nine to twelve weeks,” explains Straßmüller.
Thurnhuber's case shows that the vaccines need a few days before they become effective.
However, according to Straßmüller, it is possible that the first vaccination ensures that Covid disease takes a significantly milder course.
As district office spokeswoman Sophie Stadler explains on request, the Warngau mayor got his vaccination appointment "in a completely legal way via the vaccination center after prior registration in the vaccination portal".
The algorithm of the vaccination software assigns the appointments according to the current prioritization reasons.
“The vaccination team does not make appointments,” emphasizes Stadler.
Mayor infected after corona vaccination: appointments are regularly made via registration
In addition to Thurnhuber, two other town hall employees fell ill with Covid-19.
According to previous information, all three suffer from cold symptoms.
After the corona outbreak at a bakery in Holzkirchen, a few more cases were discovered.
The series of rapid tests for employees continue.
