For some years now, system cameras have been trying to overtake digital single-lens reflex cameras (DSLR).

System cameras are more manageable and offer a very good alternative to heavy SLR cameras for photos and videos.

For years there were only two types, the DSLR and the compact cameras, but hobby photographers can now choose from three categories.

The selection of system cameras is large, well-known manufacturers such as Sony bring some cameras such as the Alpha 6000 onto the market.

We explain the most important points when buying a camera and have different models for you at a glance.

System camera: You should pay attention to this with Sony Alpha 6000 and Co.

  • Price:

System cameras are easy to use, handy and offer the perfect alternative for professionals and beginners alike.

Of course, these advantages come at a price.

You can easily pay a low four-digit amount for a good system camera.

However, there are also models for the “narrow” wallet that can be had for less than 1,000 euros.

  • You buy the system!

With a system camera, you don't just buy the camera and accessories, you buy an entire system.

You commit yourself to the camera housing, because every manufacturer has its own connection system to connect the lens to the system camera.

The lenses can only be changed within this system.

The camera can often be exchanged at will within a system without having to replace all lenses immediately.

Therefore, when buying a system camera, pay attention to your current needs and do not look too far into the future.

  • Sensor

    format:

Mirrorless system cameras use a sensor to focus and expose.

The following rule of thumb applies to the size of the sensor format: the larger the sensor, the lower the noise and the more light it is at the higher the resolution.

    The bigger the better.

The advantages of large sensors are particularly evident in poor lighting conditions.

  • Resolution:

The resolution of system cameras is usually between 10 and 24 megapixels.

Some system cameras such as the Sony Alpha 7R II are even available with 42 million pixels.

Fewer pixels mean a lower resolution, but each individual pixel is slightly larger, which enables better pictures in poor lighting conditions.

What is the difference between a system camera and an SLR camera?

The established reflex camera (DSLR) is getting more and more competition from system cameras (DSLM).

The main difference is certainly the construction.

While SLR cameras have a mirror in the system, system cameras do not have one and are therefore much lighter.

The viewfinder is electronic with the DSLM.

In terms of image quality, resolution and autofocus, there are sometimes massive differences between single-lens reflex cameras and mirrorless system cameras.
