We will get out of the corona even before we get out of the tangle: two weeks before the election, three comments on the situation

This week, the director general of the Election Commission, Adv. Orly Adas, gave an update on the situation ahead of the election, in which she detailed the budget expansion for the changes made in accordance with the Corona virus and in relation to the previous elections.

Adas updated that the budget committee for the election campaign for the 24th Knesset, in the amount of NIS 674 million, has been approved by the Election Committee.

Adas explained that "NIS 237 million of the increase compared to the previous election stems mainly from the demand for elections in the shadow of the corona, which has an impact on all budget items. The bulk of the increase is intended to protect public health when it comes to voting."

A significant part of the increase in the budget is due to the "dramatic increase" in the number of polling stations compared to the past, when an increase of about 35% is expected: in the past there were about 11,000, and today we will stand at about 15,000 polling stations.

"If you look at the cost of polling stations in elections that are not in the shadow of the corona, the cost of polling stations, including the incumbents, is NIS 22-23,000. If you talk about an additional 3,500 polling stations, you get an additional NIS 75 million from this component alone."
