Pharmacists are now allowed to prescribe and inject the vaccine. They will receive the doses on March 18 or 19.

A little more than 18,400 pharmacies have volunteered to vaccinate against Covid-19 next week, ordering 36,100 vials of AstraZeneca, we learned Thursday from the Ministry of Health.

"

For the 4th week of this vaccination campaign in town, 18,402 pharmacies ordered vials, divided between 17,698 pharmacies who ordered 2 vials and 704 who ordered 1 vial, for a total of 36,100 vials

", indicated to the AFP the Directorate General of Health (DGS).

Pharmacists have been authorized to prescribe and inject vaccines against Covid-19 since the publication of the decree in the Official Journal last Friday.

Doses on March 18 or 19

Vaccination remains reserved primarily for people over 75, over 50 suffering from comorbidities and adults at very high risk, but the decree provides that pharmacists can "

prescribe vaccines (..) to any person

 " , except those "

with a hemostasis disorder

 " and pregnant women.

Pharmacists had until Wednesday 11 p.m. to come forward and will receive their doses on Thursday March 18 or Friday March 19, according to a “

DGS-Urgent

 ”

note

dated Monday.

These doses are in addition to some 67,000 referred to pharmacies in the departments with the highest epidemic circulation as of this Thursday or at the latest Friday, allowing some to start vaccinating this week.

The ministry had indicated Sunday that the order opened at the beginning of the week was "

exceptionally open to pharmacies only because of the low number of doses delivered by the AstraZeneca laboratory

", triggering the ire of liberal doctors.

In the first week, 28,844 volunteers had volunteered, 19,187 the second and around 33,000 the third.
