Brigitte Mitterleitner has looked after children for her entire professional life.

Now the kindergarten director is saying goodbye to the facility in Haag.

Hague

- A challenging, varied, but also fulfilling time is coming to an end: Brigitte Mitterleitner determined the fortunes of the community kindergarten in Haag for 30 years.

At the end of March, the popular daycare manager says goodbye to her well-deserved retirement.

Mitterleitner has been part of the “inventory” of the community kindergarten, so to speak, since 1991.

Konrad Huber, the mayor of The Hague at the time, “appointed” the facility manager, recalls the pedagogue, and laughs.

The new building at Inkofenerstraße 4 in Haag was moved into this year.

Educators in the group management had already been hired.

Only one leader was still missing.

“You do that,” said Huber.

She had already gained experience working as an educator in two facilities in Freising: in the kindergarten on Wettersteinring and on Arndtstrasse in the Neustift district of Freising.

She actually wanted to be a housekeeper

At a young age, she rejected her original career wish to train as a home economics teacher.

“The career counselors all told me that they were looking for educators”, so the Chieminger-born woman decided on this profession.

She has never regretted it.

From administrative tasks, teamwork in groups, socio-pedagogical work with families and her own pedagogical actions towards the children - as a leader she was challenged everywhere.

The training at the specialist academy for social pedagogy in the state capital Munich shaped her, said Mitterleitner.

“There was freedom of thought there.” And that has largely determined her professional career.

Everyday pedagogical life has changed in 30 years

The joy of approaching people and mastering everyday life with humor has always been the driving force.

Of course, everyday educational life has changed over the past 30 years.

“In the 1990s, most children were only at the facility in the mornings.

All-day children were the exception. ”She was also able to see a change in the role model in the facility.

“In the past, it was primarily the mothers who brought and fetched the children.

Today just as many daddies come. ”The social change has led to a broader understanding of education and upbringing.

This includes the age opening in the regular kindergarten for children under three years of age, as well as inclusion with all its facets.

The kindergarten in Haag was one of the first daycare centers in the district to work integratively, emphasizes Mitterleitner, not without pride.

The focus has always been on creating a sensitive and sustainable cooperation.

Every child has its own personality and its own pace of development and learning.

In an appreciative and loving environment, the child develops motor skills and self-confidence by itself. The parents' ideas were gladly taken up and further developed in the team.

“Our father-and-child tents in the garden came about in this way,” says Mitterleitner and laughs.

Once per kindergarten year, dad and children can spend the night together in the castle garden.

Trust as the basis of living together

A quality of "slowness" has always been important to her as a teacher.

"The greatest enemy of quality is speed", she quotes the American inventor and automobile pioneer, Henry Ford ".

"In our fast-paced world, you should be able to endure boredom." She wishes her successor Manuela Kuhlow to deal with the story and figure of the Little Prince from the story of the same name by the French writer Antoine de Saint Exupéry.

The quote: “You can only see well with the heart”, includes mindfulness of the heart and trust as the basis of coexistence.

Both very important things.
