The van Laack fashion company is adding the next medical product to its range.

After selling cloth masks and smocks, the company now wants to sell self-tests.

Mönchengladbach - Fashion manufacturer van Laack is reinventing itself in times of the Corona crisis.

After the business with fabric masks came to a standstill due to the regulation of FFP2 masks, the company from North Rhine-Westphalia is now also devoting itself to the sale of self-tests.

The chain is thus focusing on the next medical product, which, according to the information, will be sold both itself and through trading partners.

The corona self-tests are manufactured by Lepu Medical in China, explained company boss Christian von Daniels.

Van Laack plans to import ten million self-test preparations by the end of March, and the company is aiming for sales of 20 million in the following month.

Corona self-tests instead of fashion: van Laack expands medical range

The omens for the new project could be better: Van Laack recently caused a stir because of controversial orders from the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia.

In addition, a quality test by TÜV Rheinland raised doubts about protective gowns from the van Laack fashion company, which, like the fabric masks, could have come about through brokering activities by Johannes Laschet, son of North Rhine-Westphalia's Prime Minister Armin.

This is because he works as a fashion blogger for the company.

In addition, an investigation in the TÜV laboratory raised concerns about the use of protective equipment in the medical care of corona patients.

Accordingly, the protective gowns sold would lack the necessary tear and seam strength, as the

explained.

In addition, there is insufficient tightness against liquids.

Corona self-tests: huge demand - product in use en masse in Austria

The fact that van Laack is now active in the corona self-test business suggests that the bottlenecks that still exist in Germany will soon be over.

The cooperation takes place again with the trading company Kingline, which was also involved in the sale of the criticized protective gowns.

The approval of the Federal Office for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) for the sale of self-tests, which differ from corona rapid tests in one essential point, is still pending.

The likelihood of rejection is low: Daniels' head of the company points out that Lepu Medical's self-test is already being used on a large scale in neighboring Austria and that the effectiveness of the preparation is indisputable according to the Paul Ehrlich Institute.
