US President Joe Biden this evening (Thursday) signed the $ 1.9 trillion aid package approved by Congress yesterday, on the anniversary of the outbreak of the corona plague.

This is the Democratic president's first legislative achievement since he was sworn in about 50 days ago.

"This historic legislation concerns the rebuilding of the backbone of this state," Biden said before signing it, a day earlier than planned.

Later in the night he will deliver a live speech to mark the year of the epidemic, in which he will call for vigilance against the virus while expressing hope for progress in the fight against it thanks to the acceleration of the vaccine rate.

Biden signs incentive package tonight (Photo: Reuters)

White House Chief of Staff Ron Klein said the incentive package, known as the U.S. bailout program, had arrived at Biden's table last night, so he had already signed it today and not tomorrow.

"We want to move forward as quickly as possible," he tweeted.

He said a ceremony attended by the heads of Congress would be held tomorrow as planned.

The incentive package, one of the largest in American history, includes $ 400 billion to be distributed in direct grants of $ 1,400 to most citizens.

In addition, $ 350 billion will be allocated to various countries and authorities, along with expanding tax breaks and increasing funding for vaccine distribution.

Biden, who promised during last year's election campaign to focus on treating the epidemic more effectively than his predecessor Donald Trump, has warned U.S. citizens since his inauguration in January that the virus will cause further death and suffering before the situation improves.

About 530,000 Americans have died from the virus, more than in any other country in the world by a considerable margin, and about 10% of the population has already completed the vaccine.

The president and senior government officials plan to embark on a campaign to promote the incentive package next week, including visits to Pennsylvania and Georgia.
