The expectations have apparently not come true: In search of new sources of income, BMW and Daimler are rowing back and parting with Park Now.

Stuttgart / Munich - Just two years after the cooperation was sealed, part of the project is being sold: BMW and Daimler are separating from the joint parking app service “Park Now”, which is part of the mobility joint venture “Your Now”.

The Scandinavian company EasyPark, based in Stockholm, intends to take over Park Now GmbH, as the two German car groups have announced.

The German-Swedish transaction is subject to the pending approval of the antitrust authorities.

BMW and Daimler split from Park Now - will the joint venture decided in 2019 break up?

Whether the planned deal is related to disappointed expectations?

Probably.

A BMW statement only highlights the advantages for the new owner: “We welcome the takeover of our joint parking service business.

This is an essential step for the further development of these digital services, which will create further dynamism for the benefit of customers and new innovations ”, according to a message from the BMW Group.

With both Park Now and EasyPark, drivers can use a mobile phone app to find and pay for parking spaces on the street or in multi-storey car parks.

Both offers complemented each other ideally in terms of market coverage in Europe and the USA, it said.

The parties agreed not to disclose any financial details.

BMW and Daimler are selling Park Now - other services could follow

Park Now is a segment of mobility services that Daimler and BMW only merged in 2019 under the name Your Now Joint Ventures.

Other areas of cooperation between BMW and Daimler are car sharing (Share Now), taxi services and the charging of electric cars. There has been speculation about the sale of individual divisions for some time, and the synergies at Share Now have not yet developed optimally for BMW and Daimler.

Behind the sale of Park Now lies the endeavor of the premium companies to concentrate more on their core business again in the future: the development and sale of vehicles.

Finally, the upheaval in the field of drive technologies also calls for the pooling of resources.
