Mohammed, 25, was sentenced this Thursday evening by the Assize Court of Essonne. In October 2017, he shot dead Modi and Samba

The trial promised to be tense, with reinforced security measures.

It finally took place in a serene atmosphere.

The confessions of the accused, on the first day of the hearing, March 4, have a lot to do with it.

This Thursday evening, the Assize Court of Essonne sentenced Mohammed, 25, to thirty years of criminal imprisonment for the murder of the brothers Modi and Samba Sylla, shot in the head on October 5, 2017 after a game of cards that had degenerated.

Since the events, Mohammed persisted in denying his responsibility for this double assassination, going so far as to blame his friend Asef, who appeared at his side for complicity in the assassination.

The latter, 24, was acquitted.

"It's a summary execution"

The victims, aged 26 and 28, were executed around 12:30 p.m. at the Peupleraie, in the sensitive district of Grande-Borne in Grigny.

“It's a scene of incredible violence and savagery.

They had no luck, points out the general counsel in her requisitions.

He killed Modi and then Samba, who saw his brother being killed in front of his eyes.

"

The motive for this double homicide?

A story of respect due to elders.

The night before, Mohammed, then 22, had fallen out with Modi, 28, while playing cards.

According to witnesses, the accused spoke to him badly.

The next day, Modi had returned, furious, to attack Mohammed.

But Asef had intervened and had separated them.

Angry, Modi had left, promising to return.

He had gone to fetch his brother, at Grigny 2, and returned to the Peupleraie.

Not finding Mohammed, they attacked Asef very violently, who had ended in blood.

The “codes” of the Grande-Borne district

It was then that Mohammed had returned with a gun in his hand.

He immediately fired at Modi, hitting him in the head.

Then he chased Samba, hitting him in the leg for the first time, before killing him with a bullet in the head.

"I can not hear that you did not want this, launches the general counsel.

If you had meant to scare them, you could just have threatened them.

But you fire three times.

It is a summary execution.

"

“What is happening at the Grande Borne is incredible when we talk about this notion of respect, of lack of respect”, wonders Me Bertrand Burman.

Mohammed's lawyer recalls that the day before the incident, his client was slapped by another "grown-up" because he allegedly shook his hand badly.

“And we heard this witness say that this is completely normal.

And the late Modi.

He also felt insulted on October 4 so that he thought about it at night and the next morning, he came back to explain himself?

Such a waste!

No, that doesn't excuse what happened.

These are facts that are neither understandable nor admissible, ”he says to his client.

"I know you will never forgive me"

But the lawyer also points to a kind of collective responsibility.

These famous neighborhood “codes” that fabricate violence by legitimizing it as a means of conflict resolution.

“This drama, for me, is above all the codes of this society, of the Grande-Borne.

This postulate, which we stop at, that Modi came to explain, because he did not admit this lack of respect, is the legitimization of violence.

If all disrespect has to end in a fight, these are not my codes.

And Asef, who has nothing to do with it.

I find it peculiar to attack him.

The law represses all forms of violence, ”recalls Me Burman.

The last to speak, Mohammed reiterated his regrets: "I know you will never forgive me".

On the benches of the civil parties, the family of the victims nods.

“I understand the hatred you have towards me.

If you only knew how ashamed I am to have done this… ”
