Prince William, second in line to the British crown, said today (Thursday) that "the royal family is not racist".

This follows the interview of his brother Prince Harry and his wife Megan Merkel, who said that one of the family members dealt with the question of the color of their son Archie's skin.

During a visit to a school in East London, William said he had not spoken to Harry since the couple's interview with Oprah Winfrey and aired three days ago.

"I have not yet spoken to him, but I will," said the prince.

When asked by one of the reporters if the royal family is racist, he replied: "We are really without a racist family."

Harry said in an interview, which shocked Britain and was watched by millions around the world, that his father, Regent Charles, had disappointed him and that he felt trapped in his royal life.

He and Megan Merkel decided to give up their public roles early last year, and moved to the United States.

The shocking interview of 36-year-old Harry and 39-year-old Megan has created the biggest crisis at a British palace since the death of Princess Diana, Harry William's mother, in 1997.

Megan claimed that members of the royal family ignored her requests for help while suffering from suicidal thoughts.

On Tuesday, the palace issued a statement on behalf of Queen Elizabeth, Harry's grandmother, saying the family was saddened to hear how difficult the last few years have been for the couple.

The statement added that the allegations of racism were worrying and would be taken seriously, but also stressed that "some of the memories may change."

The palace said that this was a family issue and that it should be dealt with privately.

During the interview, Harry revealed how he distanced himself from the rest of his family, saying that his father stopped answering his calls at some point.

He also described a distance in his relationship with his brother William.

"A lot more will be said about it, like I said before, I love William to the depths of my soul, he's my brother, we went through hard things together and we have a common past," Harry said.

"But we are on different paths."

Public opinion in the kingdom was split after the interview.

While some saw this as proof of how outdated and intolerant the palace was, others said it was a self-interested and unfair attack on the part of the couple against the Queen and the royal family.
