The design of the bomb shelter for Bonham Road Government Primary School is rare

According to the Antiquities Office, the Bonham Road Government Primary School was completed in about 1941. During the Japanese occupation, it was used as the headquarters of the Japanese military police, the main building was used as an interrogation place, and the gymnasium was used as a horse riding.

There are two air-raid shelters in the basement of the main building. According to the Antiquities Office, the design of air-raid shelters is very rare among the existing historical buildings in Hong Kong.

Will actively plan Tai Po walking trails

As for the old Tai Po police station, the Antiquities Office said that the residents of the New Territories believed that the construction of the police station would affect the feng shui of the district, and the police station was burned.

In April 1899, armed conflict broke out in the New Territories. The government and local residents fought fiercely.

A member of the Ancient Advisory Council pointed out at the meeting that according to history, the residents of Yuen Long District had also resisted and suffered heavy casualties. They frankly said that many bodies were buried in the village. Another member also pointed out that there are many historical buildings in Tai Po, so they are not. It should be handled separately, and it is recommended to use the heritage trail to fully present the history of Tai Po.

The Antiquities Office responded that it will follow up on the above suggestions and actively plan walking trails.

Sha Tau Kok Xietian Temple guided tour can be arranged

As for the Xietian Temple monument in Shan Tsui Village, Sha Tau Kok, New Territories, members of the Ancient Advisory Council also pointed out that the Xietian Temple was located in a restricted area and questioned how the public can use the facility.

The Antiquities Office indicates that guided tours can be arranged in the future.

Su Zhangde, Chairman of the Ancient Advisory Council, presided over the meeting and discussed a number of historical building ratings.

The owner opposes listing He Futang as a third-class historical building

In addition, as early as 2009, the Old Advisory Council had approved the six projects of the Ho Fook Tong Centre in Tuen Mun San Hui as a three-level historical building rating. However, due to objections and enquiries raised by the owners during the public consultation, the Old Advisory Council will discuss it again today.

The Antiquities Office pointed out at the meeting that the owner had objected to the proposed rating in public consultation, saying that he did not agree that the above-mentioned historic buildings have cultural relic value. In March this year, the owner reiterated his opposition in writing, saying that some buildings had not been used for more than 20 years. Therefore, there is no cultural relic value worth keeping.

After discussing it again today, the ancient advisory council approved the proposed rating of the above-mentioned building.

Shatoujiao Xietian Temple was built between 1894 and 1895, with a history of 126 years, mainly dedicated to Emperor Guan.
