The catering industry is suffering from the Corona measures like hardly any other industry.

However, many of them do not let their creativity be denied: A traditional landlord forges a plan.

Munich - foresight and a lot of feeling.

Every good ice stock athlete needs that.

Just like any good restaurateur.

And although inns in Bavaria are currently still suffering from the Corona closings, traditional landlord Lorenz Stiftl (56) is already working on plans for the coming winter.

His latest idea: He wants to build an ice stock rink in front of his Hackerhaus next winter - in the middle of Sendlinger Straße.

Two lanes plus additional catering are planned with a total area of approximately 7.50 by 34 meters.

"My wife Christine and I are delighted that the district committee is already unanimously in favor of the curling rink we want in the pedestrian zone," says Stiftl of the

tz

and adds: "We have planned two lanes, each 25 meters long, for Sendlinger Strasse, that we want to operate with green electricity.

Whether and how this will be approved, however, would have to be clarified by other official bodies of the city of Munich *.

“We see this as a welcome loosening up and upgrading of Munich's inner city in winter,” said Stiftl, commenting on his icy plan.

Munich soon with ice stock in the pedestrian zone?

The idea could fail because of this

The biggest problem at the moment is: The planned curling lanes do not comply with the city's event guidelines for public streets.

According to technical terminology, this is a permanent and regularly recurring occupancy of public space as well as a long-term commercial and gastronomic event by the city center host.

What also needs to be clarified: The railways could create additional catering, the free bar area in front of the Hackerhaus would then have to be expanded and a precedent would possibly arise that would not comply with the fundamental decision on Sendlinger Straße.

How the ice stock surface in the pedestrian zone could look like can be seen in Vienna as an example:

Stiftl, who recently caused a stir with a dispute over the German Theater, has already taken two modules, each eight by eight meters, and the planned curling rink goes all the way to Hackenstrasse.

Additional problems could arise with regard to the ability to guide the fire brigade, lighting, every evening acoustics for residents and yes, also the use of radiant heaters.

The district administration department is currently checking whether an exception appears possible here.

Munich: "Original" and "smart" - the district committee discusses the sports area in Sendling

In order to find arguments for and against the project, the district committee Altstadt-Lehel was asked for feedback.

Although the committee expressed a few concerns about the duration of the event, fair pricing and impairment of local residents, it was overall open-minded and benevolent.

Especially in these times.

Stiftl was invited to the subcommittee meeting to discuss open questions.

In the most recent BA meetings, the committee then explained the pros and cons.

Wolfgang Püschel (SPD), for example, thought it was an “original, smart idea”, but initially could only imagine such a project “without admission”.

But Stiftl had shown himself to be “social” and “cooperative”, it was said, and he would like to enable everyone to visit his train with fair prices.

It is still unclear whether this can be operated until the end of January or only for as long as the Christmas markets.

The period from November 12, 2021 to January 30, 2022 is initially planned. Of course, Stiftls already have a hygiene concept.

Now there is only one decision left.

Meanwhile, the Söder government apparently wants to completely change its vaccination strategy *.
