Altötting - There was a fatal accident on the A94 this Thursday morning, March 11th, due to a wrong-way driver.

According to a police report, an 80-year-old driver from the Altötting district came from the 2876 state road at about 7:35 a.m. and at the Altötting * junction, initially in the direction of Munich, really turned onto the A94.

"There he turned around with his car for an as yet unexplained cause," writes the Upper Bavaria South Police Headquarters.

The man then drove wrongly in his Opel towards Passau.

"Between the junction Altötting and Neuötting, he collided with an oncoming VW Golf." Its occupant - a 24-year-old woman from the Altötting district - was seriously injured and flown to the hospital in Traunstein in a rescue helicopter *.

But that's not all: After the crash with the VW Golf, the Opel hurled against the trailer of an oncoming truck.

The officials report: "The 80-year-old wrong-way driver and his 81-year-old wife, who was a passenger, were trapped in their vehicle and released by the alerted volunteer fire brigade." The Opel driver sustained fatal injuries in the accident, his wife was seriously injured.

"She was brought to the Altötting hospital with the ambulance service *."

According to the police, the damage to the Opel amounts to around 8,000 euros, and to the Golf there was around 15,000 euros.

The truck trailer was also affected: the property damage is estimated by the officials here at around 5,000 euros.

The presidium announced: “An expert opinion was commissioned by order of the leading public prosecutor in Traunstein.” Both cars were seized and towed away.

Numerous rescue and fire fighters from Neuötting, Winhöring and Reischach as well as the motorway maintenance department were on site to rescue those involved in the accident and to secure the accident site.

The A94 was closed for several hours for the duration of the accident recording and recovery of the vehicles as well as for cleaning the lane in the direction of Munich.

The traffic was diverted.

The exact course of the accident is the subject of further police investigations.
