In the European Union, a fourth vaccine against Covid-19 can be injected in the future.
The EU Commission confirmed the approval of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine after the European Medicines Agency (EMA) had issued its recommendation for the active ingredient.
As EU Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides announced on Twitter, four vaccines against the virus are now available in the EU.
You will continue to work with Johnson & Johnson to ensure that the delivery of the vaccine goes as smoothly as possible, wrote the EU Commissioner.
The vaccine from Johnson & Johnson is one of the so-called vector vaccines, which use harmless viruses to transport parts of the coronavirus DNA into cells.
The vaccine was developed in the Netherlands by Johnson's subsidiary Janssen.
The EU has already ordered 200 million cans.
Vaccines from Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca are already approved in the EU.
