The pressure on New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is growing: After six women have now stated that they have been sexually molested by the 53-year-old Democrat, 59 party friends from the US state have written a letter calling for Cuomo's resignation.
This is reported by the AP news agency.
Accordingly, the MPs are apparently also considering removing Cuomo through impeachment if necessary.
The governor allegedly touched the women - mostly government employees - inappropriately or verbally harassed them.
The first allegedly affected had already made their allegations public in February, on Wednesday the now sixth woman raised allegations in a local newspaper that Cuomo had ordered her into the governor's residence and then sexually harassed.
Cuomo had recently announced that he would draw his conclusions from the allegations and reconsider his behavior.
It was common for him to kiss and hug people as a greeting.
The Democrat stressed, however, that "he never touched anyone inappropriately."
The governor also ruled out a resignation.
The democrat, who was once an outstanding Corona manager, is also troubled by a scandal about the number of corona deaths in his state.
As the "New York Times" and the "Wall Street Journal" reported, Cuomo's close employees modified a report by the health authority in order to disguise the true number of corona deaths in old people's and nursing homes.
Accordingly, in the original draft of the document, more than 9200 corona deaths were reported in the homes.
With the change, the number was pushed to 6432.
New York City's mayor supports calls for resignation
"Given the admission of the governor to have behaved inappropriately and the knowledge about changed data on the Covid-19 deaths in nursing homes," Cuomo lost the trust of the 19 senators and 40 MPs from the state, AP quoted from the letter.
It was time for Cuomo to step down, it said.
The Mayor of New York City, Bill de Blasio, suggested Cuomo resign.
The news agency Reuters quoted the mayor as saying that he could no longer serve as governor.
The allegations are "horrific".
