US President Joe Biden has put the trillion dollar Corona stimulus package into effect with his signature.

It is a "historic law" that gives the middle class and working people a fair chance, Biden said in the White House.

The $ 1.9 trillion stimulus package represents almost ten percent of annual economic output.

It includes, among other things, direct payments for most taxpayers of $ 1,400 and additional help for families, including a child benefit.

In addition, it mobilizes funds for corona tests, the vaccination campaign, school openings and money for clammy states and municipalities.

According to White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki, citizens should be able to expect direct payments as early as the weekend.

Originally, the signing of the package of measures equivalent to around 1.6 trillion euros was announced for Friday.

The package proposed by Biden cleared its final hurdle in the US Congress on Wednesday.

So Biden preferred his signature.

On Sunday, the extended and increased unemployment benefits for millions of Americans would have expired.

Nevertheless, most Republicans rejected the extensive package, and according to surveys, the majority of the population approves it.

Unemployment benefits are slated to increase by $ 300 a week through early September.
