Bolivia: arrest of former interim president Jeanine Áñez is ordered

The Bolivian Attorney General's Office on Friday issued an arrest warrant against former interim president Jeanine Áñez and her former ministers

The Attorney General's Office of Bolivia issued an arrest warrant this Friday against former interim president Jeanine Áñez and her former ministers Arturo Murillo, Yerko Núñez, Álvaro Coímbra, Fernando López and Rodrigo Guzmán, the latter apprehended in Beni, according to the state channel Bolivia TV.

CNN has not been able to access the basis of the charges through the Prosecutor's Office, but Áñez published on his Twitter account an image of the six pages of the arrest warrant speaking of "political persecution."

These charges are "terrorism, sedition and conspiracy."

In the document shared by the ex-president, the charges are given in the framework of the investigation for a "coup d'etat" in 2019.

The other defendants have not commented on these charges.

The state channel Bolivia TV reported that the former Minister of Energy Guzmán was apprehended in the city of Trinidad, capital of the department of Beni, in the northeast of the country.

According to the official media, the former official will be transferred to the city of La Paz to take the tax declaration.

In statements to the press, Guzmán said that he was not summoned by the Prosecutor's Office and expressed his willingness to appear in court.

"We are going to assume this as always, we are going to continue to be opponents of this government," he said.
