(CNN Spanish) -

The interview of Harry and Meghan, Dukes of Sussex, with Oprah Winfrey has caused a stir in the world and British media even said that it put the royal family in crisis.

The revelations from the interview reignited the debate over whether the royal family can survive after the queen, as CNN's Luke McGee explains in this analysis.

But who is the heir to the throne?

What is the line of succession?

Succession to the throne is regulated not only by descent, but also by parliamentary statute, according to the official website of the British royal family.

It is the order in which the members of the royal family are in line for the throne.

Elizabeth II is the queen of the United Kingdom and of 15 countries of the British Commonwealth, among which are Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Her husband is Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

They have four children: Carlos, the heir to the throne;

Ana, royal princess;

Andrew, Duke of York;

and Edward, Lord of Wessex.

These are the first seven (of 18) in the line of succession to the British throne.

1. Charles, Prince of Wales

Charles, the Prince of Wales, is the heir to the throne of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

His first wife was the late Diana, Princess of Wales, with whom he had two children: William and Harry.

His current wife, Camilla (formerly Parker Bowles) is the Duchess of Cornwall.
