The Bach family has been digitally cut off from the outside world since the end of February.

All five children have not been able to take part in homeschooling since then.

Heimgarten

- "Telekom is not at all interested in our difficult situation," complains Martin Bach.

The 42-year-old lives with his wife, their five children and parents in Heimgarten, a hamlet between Eglfing and Uffing on the Staffelsee.

According to him, the family has been cut off from the outside world since the end of February.

The above-ground telephone line was damaged by a tree transporter and although Telekom was informed immediately, the landline telephone and Internet access in the Bach house are still not working again.

"And that at the current Corona time," says Bach angrily.

According to him, his five children are all still going to school, and two daughters are graduating this year.

In order to be able to participate in homeschooling, the children and adolescents would now always have to go to friends of the family, but not all together, as the Corona requirements do not allow it.

"It's all very annoying, there is so much involved," says Bach.

The same thing happened in winter for Selina, a student from Dachau, who had to give her presentation in the snowy garden due to the poor telecommunications network.

Digital failure during Corona: Orders for father are canceled - Telekom is not interested

The telephone and internet failure affects not only the school career of the children, but also the livelihood of the whole family.

Martin Bach is the owner of a dry construction company and part-time farmer.

Since he cannot be reached on the landline at the moment, he misses important calls.

“The whole thing cost me three jobs,” he says.

In addition, there is only very poor cell phone reception in the hamlet, so he can only make calls outside of his place of residence.

Bach is also worried about his father, who has a heart condition.

“What if we suddenly need a doctor?” He wonders.

Would the mobile phone emergency call then work reliably?

Digitally cut off from the outside world: Not the first time for the Bach family - but currently a disaster

Last year, the family said they had no connection for six weeks.

At that time trees had fallen on the phone line.

But even when the phone and the Internet work, surfing the net is not child's play.

“Only one person can go online at a time and the page loading is very slow,” says Bach.

"But that way my children could at least take turns and I was reliably available." The hamlet will not be supplied with fiber optics until 2023, says Bach.

At least the Bach family can hope for a request from the local newspaper at Telekom.

The prioritized repair of the line is expected to be completed this week, ”said a Telekom spokesman on Wednesday.

An exact estimate of the repair time is not yet possible.
