MEPs gave the green light on Friday to an obligation to provide spare parts for certain products for a minimum period of five years after the end of their marketing.
Nicknamed "
bicycle amendment
", the measure was adopted during the work of the special committee of the National Assembly, which has been looking since Monday on the climate bill, part of which aims to "
green the economy
".

Article 13, rewritten by an amendment by co-rapporteur Cendra Motin (LREM), concerns “
manufacturers or importers of motorized DIY and gardening tools, bicycles, including electrically assisted, and motorized personal travel
”.
A maximum fine of 75,000 euros
These professionals will have to ensure the availability of spare parts during the marketing period of their products, and beyond for a "
minimum additional period
" of five years.
Such an obligation already exists for electrical and electronic equipment, as well as medical equipment.
Infractions will be punishable by a maximum fine of 75,000 euros.
There is also an obligation, with possible exceptions, to offer parts from the circular economy instead of new parts, in order to limit waste and the impact on the environment.
After its examination in committee, the bill resulting from the Citizen's Convention for the Climate (CCC) must come to first reading in the hemicycle of the National Assembly at the end of the month.
