- Thefts and attempted theft occurred on Thursday in the Nuremberg districts of Gostenhof and St. Leonhard.

This is what it says in a press release from the Police Headquarters in Middle Franconia *.

The first case occurred around 11 a.m.

A 14-year-old noticed in Spenglerstrasse in the Gostenhof district that two men were tampering with her backpack.

The youngster reacted immediately and turned her backpack forward, whereupon the strangers ran away. 

A few meters away, another incident occurred a short time later in Nuremberg *.

In her hallway on Rothenburger Strasse, two men engaged a 53-year-old woman in a conversation and used the moment of inattentiveness to steal her wallet from the woman's pocket.

The thieves managed to escape undetected, the report said.

At around 12 noon, an 81-year-old was also the victim of such a theft in St. Leonard.

A man approached the elderly lady in a supermarket parking lot on Konstanzenstrasse to ask for a donation.

After she refused and loaded her purchases into her vehicle, the perpetrator was able to secretly steal her wallet. 

To protect against pickpocketing, the police recommended in the notification not to put wallets in the top of the shopping bag, basket or trolley, but to carry them close to the body.

She advises not to hang handbags on the back of a chair in department stores, restaurants or shops and not to leave them unattended. 

The criminal police are currently investigating whether the various acts are related.

To do this, she is looking for witnesses who can provide relevant information about the thefts or who have otherwise noticed suspicious persons.

The police asks witnesses who can provide information about the incidents to report to the Nuremberg West Police Station on (09 11) 6 58 30.
