These administrative pearls that give you a headache

2021-03-12T06:13:47.601Z

Abbreviated sentences are popping up on public administration sites. Anthology.

Powerless.

Such is our state when we immerse ourselves, painfully, in administrative procedures.

Convoluted sentences, amphigouric words and interminable response times turn this area into a real Chinese puzzle, a hotbed of incomprehensible formulas.

“Notification of overdue”

,

“referenced claim”

,

“final payment”

,

“debt clearance”

... This jargon creeps up on the various government sites.

The Service Public + site is therefore a saving aid.

He suggests that French people report their experience of administrative jargon,

“to help the public service improve”

.

The administrations concerned are then invited to simplify their obscure formulas.

Here are some pearls.

Employment center

"Employees deprived of employment falling under the special mining regime (...) must neither be holders of an old-age pension (...) nor beneficiaries of a so-called" bridging "scheme providing for the same services additional resources intended to be relayed by open retirement benefits (...). "

If you did not understand the meaning of this message, start reading again.

One, two, three times ... Nothing helps.

Is this an encrypted message?

A secret code?

Nebulous formulas abound on the job application site.

Govt tax

Here is a tasty illustration of the jargon of the Civil Service.

In the box

"online declaration of tax income"

, it reads:

"If your tax household has an amount of tax still to be paid, your notice will show the amount of tax still due on your income for 2019, after imputation of the amounts of PAS withdrawn in 2019, of your reductions and tax credits (...) ”

Headaches, discouragement and impatience guaranteed for those who wish to declare their money.

National Education

The ministry of Jean-Michel Blanquer has launched a system called

“Ropes of success”

, to

“support guidance”

students in France, especially those in priority education networks.

"Rope head"

,

"roped establishment"

,

"fight against student self-censorship"

,

"overall support program", "added value of the device for the student in terms of guidance support and progressive development of its course ”

...

The project is not lacking in ambition to help schoolchildren in the smooth running of their schooling.

The key is to disregard the abstruse language deployed.

National Secured Titles Agency

Do you want to know the amount of additional taxes specific to transport vehicles?

You will be happy to learn that

"the surcharge on transport vehicles (Y.2) is a flat-rate tax introduced for the development of vocational training actions in road transport."

Clear, isn't it?

Family Allowance Fund

Students know this site inside out.

Allowances, activity bonuses, housing assistance ... The CAF is a precious friend, notwithstanding the presence of some obscure terms, which complicate the procedures:

"term expired"

,

"acquests"

,

"macroprocessus"

,

"obérer"

,

"Slip"

...

Faced with this maelstrom of incomprehension, a glimmer of hope: the Caf offers on its site a lexicon, developed by France Termes, which lists, defines and simplifies the language of the scribes.
