Almost a year after the death of African American George Floyd in a police operation in Minneapolis, the city and the family reached a settlement of $ 27 million.
The city council unanimously approved the agreement on Friday, reported the New York Times and the news channel CNN.
The family's lawyer, Ben Crump, spoke of an "historic settlement" on Twitter.
This proves that the lives of black people can no longer be dismissed as "trivial, unimportant or unworthy of the consequences".
Floyd's family had filed a lawsuit against the city of Minneapolis after his violent death.
