The LREM president of the Laws Commission at the National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, claims the “
right to choose his end of life
”, taking the opposite view of the government.
She says she will vote on a bill that will be examined in April at the Palais Bourbon, in the space reserved for the Libertés et Territoires group.

I decided to vote for the right to choose his end of life, in line with my positions: I had signed the platform of my colleague Jean-Louis Touraine to this effect, then his bill.
It is time to debate the subject in Parliament, because it has irrigated our society for decades,
”she said in an interview with
Journal du Dimanche
(JDD).
The MP for Yvelines goes against the cautious position of the government which during a debate in the Senate on a socialist bill aimed
at
"
establishing the right to die with dignity
", opposed an end to receive the text .
The minister announced on Thursday the launch in April of a fifth “
national plan for the development of palliative care and support for the end of life
”, the previous one having ceased in 2019. But for Yaël Braun-Pivet, “
the Claeys-Leonetti law is progress, but it does not go far enough.
Olivier Véran is right to want to develop access to palliative care.
But that's a different subject.
Another, complementary approach must be taken.
I hope that the debate on April 8 will enable the government to take a position, not on palliative care, but on the right to die with dignity, which we must guarantee to citizens and families who so wish

”, affirmed Yaël Braun-Pivet.

This proposes that if the text of the law “
Freedoms and Territories
” is adopted by the National Assembly on April 8, the government or a group of the Senate could take it up.
Even within the presidential majority, Jean-Louis Touraine (former PS deputy) tabled a text in favor of "
active medical assistance in dying
" for seriously ill and
dying
people, which has garnered support more than half of the LREM deputies and beyond, ie 164 elected by the majority.
