Former Bolivian President Jeanine Áñez was arrested in the early hours of this Saturday and is in the hands of the police.

Áñez's arrest was confirmed by the Bolivian Government Minister, Carlos Eduardo del Castillo del Caprio.

The Bolivian Attorney General's Office issued on Friday an arrest warrant against Áñez and his former ministers Arturo Murillo, Yerko Núñez, Fernando López, Álvaro Coímbra and Rodrigo Guzmán.

Coimbra and Guzmán have already been detained in the city of Trinidad, in the northeast of the country, according to the state channel Bolivia TV.

On her Twitter account, the former president wrote this morning that "in an act of abuse and political persecution, the MAS government has ordered me to arrest."

CNN has not been able to access the basis of the charges through the Prosecutor's Office, but Áñez published on his Twitter account an image of the six pages of the arrest warrant speaking of "political persecution."

These charges are "terrorism, sedition and conspiracy."

In the document shared by the ex-president, the charges are given in the framework of the investigation for a "coup d'etat" in 2019.

The former Minister of the Presidency, Yerko Núñez, said on Twitter that "the MAS in complicity of justice is going after the hunt for former ministers."

"The complaint refers to events that occurred before the government of Áñez assumed command of the country," he added.

The other defendants have not commented on these charges.

Images from Bolivia TV showed when Coimbra was put into a police vehicle, while saying that he was being transferred to La Paz and that he had "always" said that he was going to "put himself at the disposal of the law."

For his part, in statements to the press, Guzmán said that the Prosecutor's Office did not summon him and expressed his willingness to appear in court.

"We are going to assume this as always, we are going to continue being opponents of this government," he said.

According to Bolivia TV, former ministers Coimbra and Guzmán were transferred in a plane from Trinidad to La Paz.

Also this Friday a judge determined the preventive detention for six months of Admiral Flavio Arce San Martín.

This is for allegedly being involved in the 2019 "coup", according to the state-run Bolivian Information Agency (ABI).

The Public Ministry requested the admiral's arrest, arguing risk of flight and obstruction, the ABI added.

CNN is trying to determine how the admiral pleads against the prosecution and if he has the legal team.
