The plans for a new cycle path between Gmund and Hausham had stalled in the meantime.

But now the project is picking up speed again.

Thanks to a new route.

Gmund

- Cyclists who are traveling between Gmund and Hausham are spoiled for choice: they can either choose the designated mountainous and therefore exhausting cycle path or pedal along State Road 2076, accompanied by a lot of car traffic.

A new cycle path has been under discussion for over 20 years, and it really picked up speed in 2018.

Resolutions were passed in both municipalities and planning started.

Now Mayor Alfons Besel had to report to the online citizens' meeting that this planning had recently stalled a bit.

“But we're getting back on track with an alternative route,” added Besel.

, the town hall chief was more specific: So far, the intention was to lead the way from Ostin along the cul-de-sac towards the leisure area on the Oedberg.

In the further course, the route should take up the existing cycle path and meet again at the so-called Schuss, where the municipal border between Gmund and Hausham runs, again on the state road 2076.

The original route failed because of the Lower Nature Conservation Authority

Concerns about "natural occurrences" would now thwart the bill, explains Besel.

Since the plan is to create a cycle path suitable for everyday use, the path should have been paved.

"One or the other alluvial forest tree in the Schußbach area should have been felled," says Besel.

However, based on the comments in the accompanying landscape conservation plan, the Lower Nature Conservation Authority spoke out against the original route.

“Now we are looking for alternatives,” says Besel and reports that a meeting is now taking place “in a tight schedule, about every 14 days”.

The Hausham community is in charge of the organization.

It is now envisaged to lead the cycle path continuously along the state road, whether left or right, that is still open.

Whether the route is then implemented depends on whether the property owners play along.

A good ten are affected on the Gmund side, said the mayor.

The Free State will assume the construction costs for the cycle path

As far as the financing is concerned, Hausham's mayor Jens Zangenfeind had already reported in the summer of 2020 that the construction costs of originally 2.7 million euros will be borne by the Free State.

The two municipalities would have to shoulder the planning costs as well as the land acquisitions.

Besel confirms this.

He is confident about the realization.

"After all, the cycle path is included in the Bavarian cycle path program."

When the cycle path will become a reality is still open.

“We want to move forward quickly,” says Besel.

That should be the case sooner than the desired cycle path across from Otterfing to Gmund.

A feasibility study is about to be completed here, reports Besel.
