Beirut-Sana
There were renewed protests in Beirut and some Lebanese regions over the continuous rise in prices, with the decrease in the exchange rate of the Lebanese pound against foreign currencies.
The Lebanese National News Agency reported that protesters gathered today in Martyrs Square in central Beirut and set up tents there, while other protesters took a stand in front of the Banque du Liban and cut off traffic in front of it.
The agency indicated that protesters blocked the Masnaa-Rashaya road in the town of Rafid, while others closed Najma Square in Saida and the commercial center in Baalbek demanding the closure of shops in protest of the high prices.
Since the year 2019, Lebanon has witnessed protest movements against the deterioration of living and economic conditions, accompanied in many cases by road blocks and paralysis of transport between regions, in addition to the attempt by some forces to exploit these protests in order to gain political and electoral points.
