Former interim Bolivian President Janine Anice was arrested last night (Saturday) by the country's authorities as part of efforts by the left-wing government that returned to power to prosecute those involved in ousting the Socialist leader, Abu Morales, in 2019 and those who came after him.

Anice, who was accused of coup by Morales supporters, was arrested in the early hours of the morning in her hometown of Trinidad and taken to the capital, La Paz, where she appeared before a state prosecutor.

"It's an abuse of authority," she told reporters later.

"There was no coup, but a constitutional legacy."

She later called out of the detention cell where she is being held by the Organization of American States and the European Union to send representatives on their behalf to examine what she claims is "illegal detention."

In addition to Ennis, whose tenure with Israel was renewed after a long hiatus, the Minister of Justice and the Minister of Defense were also arrested in her government, and arrest warrants were also issued to senior ministers in the previous right-wing government.

In addition, arrest warrants were also issued for the then chief of staff and police chief, calling on Morales to resign in 2019.

Morales himself tweeted in support of Anice's arrest: "All dictatorship perpetrators must be exposed and investigated." His predecessor was Carlos Mesa, who lost to Morales in several elections , Said that in detention "there is no justice, they are trying to overthrow the opposition and produce a narrative of coup in order to cover up their forgeries".

New Justice Minister Evan Lima said 53-year-old Anice is facing charges related to her actions as a senator in the opposition, rather than as a former president.

Interior Minister Eduardo del Castillo has denied that this was an act of persecution, saying the arrest stemmed from a criminal complaint about conspiracy and rebellion filed against her in November, the month she left office.

Anice's arrest and arrest warrants issued against right-wing officials who served in the interim administration deepen the rift in the South American state.

Former President Morales was ousted in late 2019, after nearly 14 years in office, after being criticized for deciding to run for a fourth term contrary to the restrictions imposed on him by the constitution and despite losing a referendum on it in 2017.

Morales resigned after weeks of violent demonstrations following his announcement of victory in the presidential election.

He said at the time that the interim president was responsible for "the most vicious and slippery coup in history."

After observers from the Organization of American States also said that there were clear irregularities in the election results, which showed that Morales would not need a second round against his conservative rival, former President Carlos Mesa, the army and police shunned the president and urged him to resign.

He had already agreed to hold new elections, but this did not run his opponents and he announced his departure from the post.

The protest against Morales, Bolivia's first indigenous president and one of the continent's veterans of the continent, included violence, looting and siege, and he was eventually forced to retire and flee the country.

Morales lived in exile in Argentina, but remained president of the movement toward socialism and played a crucial role in electing Luis Arsa as the party's candidate, and then the new president.

Anice, the interim president, withdrew from the race in light of her low support percentage.
