That is the schedule until the election decision.

Update from March 13, 10:01 p.m.:

The election in Rhineland-Palatinate is under a special star because of Corona - and as a survey by

Bild has

now shown, record numbers can be expected, at least as far as postal votes are concerned.

However, not all parties accept the contactless voting process equally strongly.

Voters from the Greens and the Left in particular use postal votes - over 72 and 73 percent of those surveyed have either already done so or are planning to vote.

The postal vote is nowhere near as popular with AfD voters: only 47.1 of the respondents have planned this type of election or have already voted by letter.

The SPD, CDU and FDP are therefore in the middle when it comes to the preference for postal votes.

When are projections made?

First report from March 13th:

Mainz - March 14th is the first major election date in 2021. The state parliament will also be re-elected in Rhineland-Palatinate.

The surveys on the RLP state election show that it is by no means certain who will be able to govern the state afterwards.

The election result could initially leave several coalitions open.

At least one thing is usually certain: By the evening of the election, the people in the state will already know very well how the parties in Rhineland-Palatinate fared.

Here you will find all the current figures in the news ticker on the evening of the election.

When will the result of the state elections in Rhineland-Palatinate be counted?

In the state elections in Rhineland-Palatinate in 2021, the polling stations will close on March 14 at 6 p.m.

Anyone who appears in the voting room by then can still cast their vote.

When the last ballot papers are then in the ballot box, the counting may begin.

The ballot papers from the postal vote are also absolutely secret until then.

So at 6 p.m. nobody knows any real numbers on the voting behavior of voters: inside.

Nevertheless, there are already clear indications of the upcoming election result.

What is the process from the projections to the election result?

As soon as the polling stations close, the first predictions about the outcome of the state elections will be made, as always.

Mind you, there are no extrapolations yet, because initially there are only the numbers that come from surveys of voters at the polling stations.

Election researchers ask voters to report how they filled out the ballot, just as anonymously as they did at the polling station.

The numbers at 6 p.m. come from this sample.

As soon as the first counts are completed, they are included in the forecast.

This results in the first extrapolation, which becomes more and more precise through new counts.

This process culminates in the final result of the 2021 state elections in Rhineland-Palatinate.

The projections for the state election are primarily about the second vote.

That is the vote that voters cast for a party.

The percentage distribution of votes is used to determine how many seats a party receives in the state parliament.

The results of the elections for the direct candidates do not change the general balance of power in parliament.

The second vote decides whether Malu Dreyer (SPD) can put a government back on its feet or whether Christian Baldauf (CDU) takes over government affairs.

When will the official final result of the RLP state election 2021 be determined?

On the day after the state election, the district election officers are informed of the local counts with the election records.

The election results in the constituency should then be determined as quickly as possible and transmitted to the regional returning officer.

Then it is the turn of the state election committee to confirm the results for the whole of Rhineland-Palatinate and to notify the elected members of the state parliament.

It can therefore take several days before the official final result is available.

For voters and political parties, the result is, of course, essentially certain before the final formal confirmation.
