While France counts its deaths in the middle of a pandemic, the debate on euthanasia resurfaces.
Never completely extinguished in recent years, it has once again resurfaced in the news with the inclusion on the parliamentary agenda of four bills on
“active assistance in dying”
.
Last week, the text on the
"right to die with dignity"
- examined in the Senate and finally withdrawn - had little chance of success.
It is different with Olivier Falorni's bill (Freedoms and Territories) to
“give the right to a free and chosen end of life”
which will be debated on April 8 in the National Assembly.
Despite the government's reservations on the advisability of discussing this very sensitive societal subject in the midst of a health crisis, it could create a surprise.
This text has indeed received strong support.
