Israel is responsible for an attack on an Iranian oil tanker in the Red Sea in October 2019, which led to a major oil leak, the British newspaper The Times reported last night (Saturday), revealing more details about the maritime front, first published in the Wall Street Journal last week.
The tanker, "Sibati", was attacked on the shores of the Saudi city of Jeddah, apparently while on its way to Syria.
After the attack, Iran said the ship was attacked by missiles from western Saudi Arabia, but the national oil company later denied this.
Tehran did not impose direct responsibility on any country, but said it was an "act of terrorism."
An Iranian investigator said yesterday that Israel was apparently responsible for another tanker attack, which was on its way to Europe, last week.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Israel has attacked at least 12 Iranian vessels or carried oil or weapons to Syria since 2019. The latest operation, according to the report, was last month off the coast of Lebanon.
Official Israel declined to comment on reports released in the wake of the Biden administration's efforts to return to a nuclear deal with Iran.
