Someone has accepted that they will starve to death or be fetched by predators: A man has abandoned guinea pigs in a forest near Irschenberg.

The police are investigating.

How heartless: A hitherto unknown person released three guinea pigs in a cardboard box in a forest near Irschenberg.

Fortunately, an Irschenberger came along when he was walking his dog near his house on Friday around 3:30 p.m.

The 62-year-old took a closer look and looked into the box - and three guinea pigs looked back.

The last owner had left them there in the remote forest, apparently in order to either starve the helpless little animals or let them be fetched by predators, reports the police.

The Irschenberger notified the Miesbach police station.

A patrol quickly took the animals and took them to the office.

There they could be safely handed over to a dedicated animal shelter employee.

The Miesbach police have initiated investigations under the Animal Welfare Act.
