In addition to dyeing hair in hair salons, many people have used natural hair dyes to dye their hair at home in recent years.

Allergic reactions such as itching and tingling

The several allergens tested this time belong to the dye part of the hair dye. Among them, p-phenylenediamine (PPD) is the most common in permanent hair dye, and about 1–6% of people in Europe, America and Asia will PPD produces allergic reactions and is mainly female.

The most common symptoms of allergic reactions include:

Itching (71.3%), and many people feel tingling (8.6%), dryness (1.9%) and burning (1.0%).

In addition, some people will develop erythema and plaque, and serious complications include contact urticaria, angioedema, hair loss, bronchospasm, asthma, and kidney poisoning, which are more likely to pose a threat to life and health.

If skin symptoms persist after washing, consumers should seek help from medical staff as soon as possible.

The total number of molds and yeasts is up to 340 times

As the European Union’s herbal Henna hair dye powders often detect bacteria or molds that exceed the safety standards and need to be recycled, the microbiological content of six Henna hair dye powders has been tested. It was found that the total number of bacterial colonies in all samples exceeded the Mainland’s "Safety Technology for Cosmetics" In the "Specifications", the index limit of other cosmetics categories (1000CFU/g), the number of bacteria detected in the sample ranges from 4400 to 250,000 CFU/g, and the limit exceeds the limit by up to 250 times.

A small amount of Armonia was detected in 5 samples

Amonia, which is common in permanent hair coloring products, contains a pungent odor, which can easily cause scalp and eye sensitivity.

Test results found that 0.1% Amonia was detected in one dyed conditioner "LPLP", and Amonia was detected in 4 permanent hair dyes containing oxidation dyes, including "Herbatint" and "TintsofNature" , "Khloris" and "LUCIDO-L", the detection amount ranges from 0.1% to 0.45% (calculated as NH3). The European Union and the Mainland stipulate that the highest concentration of Amonia in cosmetics is 6%. All samples meet the relevant requirements. Regulations.

The packaging of the 5 samples with Armonia was not labeled as containing the ingredients of Armonia, and "Herbatint" and "Tints of Nature" were marked as "Ammonia free" on the packaging.

6 types of herbal henna detected trace heavy metals

The Consumer Council uses the mixture of colorants and developers in various hair dye samples to detect the levels of lead, mercury and cadmium.

The test results showed that neither the dyed conditioner nor the permanent hair dye samples detected the heavy metals tested.

However, lead was detected in the 6 herbal henna hair dye powders, and the detected amount ranged from 0.4 to 3.1 ppm; among them, "LingLee Ning Li" also detected 0.043 ppm of mercury.

The detected amount is lower than the upper limit of the Mainland’s "Safety Technical Specifications for Cosmetics" (lead: 10ppm, mercury: 1ppm).

Tips for Choosing and Using Hair Dyeing Supplies

Consumers should pay attention to their physical conditions before dyeing their hair. If they have eczema, or the scalp surface is itchy or even damaged, they should avoid dyeing their hair.

Unhealthy scalp may increase the body's allergic reactions to different chemicals and microorganisms. Consumers should be careful.

Before any hair dyeing, consumers should carefully read the usage instructions on the product packaging and instructions, and perform skin sensitivity tests as instructed to reduce the health risks that may be caused by dyeing hair.

If consumers have ever had an allergic reaction due to hair dyeing, they should be careful when choosing hair dye products, pay special attention to the ingredient list on the product packaging, and avoid using products that contain more different allergens.

If necessary, you can ask medical staff to learn about and conduct tests for allergens.

Permanent hair dyes generally add chemicals such as Amonia and hydrogen peroxide to allow the dye to enter the skin. The disadvantage is that it has the opportunity to damage the surface of the hair and cause dryness or frizz.

If consumers want to reduce the risk of damage to the hair and reduce the risk of allergies, they should avoid choosing such hair dyeing products.

If consumers feel itchy or even burning when using hair dyes, they should wash them off with water immediately.

If the skin symptoms persist after washing, consumers should seek help from medical staff as soon as possible.
