New CDU chief under fire from critics

The electoral setback suffered on Sunday weakens Armin Laschet six months before the legislative elections.


"Disappointing"

: with a single adjective, Armin Laschet described the severe defeats recorded on Sunday in the first two test elections of his term as leader of the conservative party.

After a series of general comments on the ballot, the new leader handed the floor over to the head of the list in Rhineland-Palatinate, via a videoconference screen.
