From the data of the Airports Authority that reached Walla!

It appears that the demand among Israelis staying abroad to return to Israel does not approach the current quota, which stands at 3,000 passengers a day and was agreed upon by the Ministries of Health and Transport last week.

Thus, on March 8, two days after the restrictions were lifted, only 1,338 passengers landed at Ben Gurion Airport.

This is despite the fact that the number of flights that day increased to 24, compared to about 15 in the previous days.

Even at later times during the last week, when the number of flights landing in Israel was 32 and 37 a day, the number of arrivals was 2,373 and 2,565 passengers respectively.

On average, since the restrictions were lifted, the number of people entering Israel has been a little over 1,400 passengers a day.

According to officials at the Airports Authority, the airlines have difficulty filling the planes and these arrive with only partial occupancy.

The incentive to continue operating the flights comes from the number of passengers leaving the country, which is consistently higher than the number of arrivals and on some days even double it.

For example, on March 10, the number of inbound and outbound flights was the same and stood at 13, but the number of inbound passengers was 1,694, while the number of departures from the country on that day was 2,220.

The forecasts for the field activity tomorrow also indicate a similar trend.

According to the expected schedule of operations, out of 40 flights, 18 of them will be arriving and expected to reach 1,997 passengers, while on the 22 scheduled departures there will be 4,040 passengers.

A change in the situation, such that it may also change the amount of passengers entering, may be reflected in last night's government decision to lift the destination limit.

In practice, instead of eight destinations from which it was possible to fly to and from Israel, it will now be possible to operate flights from any destination in the world.

The decision is expected to have an impact due to the relative ease with which it will be possible to reach Israel, since passengers will no longer be required to travel to certain airports.

The decision is also expected to lower the prices of flights.

This is subject to the economic considerations of local and foreign airlines to operate these flights and to justify their existence.

The state is now required to return to the High Court on the basis of what the quota of entrants to Israel is determined, following a petition by the Movement for Quality of Government.

The government's decision to cancel the target limit was approved today by the Knesset's Economics Committee. The civilian, because "we thought there was a gap between demand and the quota, but we saw that the quota was not filled. Ben Gurion Airport's capacity is 3,600-3,400 passengers a day, and only 1,800-1,700 entered."

The number of people entering Israel is just over 1,400 passengers a day.

When asked by the committee's chairman, MK Yaakov Margi (Shas), regarding the number of Israelis abroad who want to return to Israel, Adv. Shachar replied that by yesterday 1,300 citizens had registered to return to Israel. The registration refers to a form submitted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Last Thursday, after the state was asked by the High Court to present to it the number of Israelis who are abroad and interested in returning to the country to vote. Foreign Ministry representatives said at the High Court hearing that there are 1,886 Israelis who have expressed a desire to return to the elections.

Currently, the government’s decision to lift the target limit and incoming quotas are temporary provisions valid until March 20.

After this date, if the directive does not change, the restrictions on entry and exit to Israel will return, and along with them, the activities of the Exceptions Committee may also change.
